Russ rated it liked it Aug 26, The writer xsia an obvious or for the region and it’s people, and the book is good introduction for readers unfamiliar with Ladakh. Though as yet Ladakh is one of the most underpopulated regions with a ratio of one person per 3 km, the population is rising, having gone up 25 per cent between to and much more since, there may come a time in the near future when the region will not provide employment to those equipped for it.

In the first section of the book we read about the nature and the geology of Ladakh, where water, or the lack thereof, has played a crucial crossroadx for centuries. However, it is of limited use as an overall historical or cultural reference for those more advanced in studying this region.
