There’s no sense in denying its a “christian” work, but as is true Lewis form, the book challenges assumptions and perspectives. Its authenticity was impeached by Lewis scholar Kathryn Lindskoog in her scholarly criticism of Walter Hooper, but in Alastair Fowler established its authenticity when he wrote in the Yale Review that he saw Lewis writing the manuscript that would be subsequently published as The Dark Towerheard him reading it, and discussed it with him.

His sense of humor, even when his intellect soars acres above me, still tickles me. I found the similarities and differences between Perelandra fascinating, both in appearance and in the form temptation takes. I really enjoyed the first two books, but then got totally bogged down in the third.

That said, my husband actually liked the third one best. A good chunk of the book covers Weston’s attempts to tempt Tililandra Venus Eveand Ransom’s attempts to foil him, all of which present interesting questions regarding the actual temptation of Adam and Eve–I like the idea of someone like Ransom, who knows what Satan is up to, trying to use his own philosophical rhetoric to try and convince Eve not to listen.
